Current Calls for Submissions:

Why are you here?

When college students are first asked this question, the common response is
something like "to get a good job" or because a class is a "requirement" for
graduation.  But when asked why that is important over and over again,
something new emerges.  Most people go to college because of an underlying
reason.  It might be because of the uncle who always said your side of the
family would never amount to anything.  It might be because your mother
stood in the doorway and said that if you were going to go out to buy more
drugs, you would have to kill her first and that bravery on the part of your
mother saved your life.  Now you owe her.  It might be because your high
school counselor would never let you take any challenging classes because he
didn't think you could make it.

Whatever it is, we want to hear about it.

Educating Rita:

Education is a process of resocialization.  Perhaps the best education as resocialization film out there is Educating
Rita
.  This early 80's film shows that education is more than just academic information, it is culture and it is choice.
We welcome submissions of all essays comparing Rita's resocialization process with that of your own
.

Tell Me About Your Day:

Writing in a journal is an excellent way to improve your writing, but it also acts as a release for
pent-up emotions and clears the way to more reasonable and deep thought--particularly about
academic writing.  Still, sometimes the best writing and certainly the best stories come from
"blowing off steam" journal writing.
